Lebanon's Oil Project to Promote Regional Development
December 12, 2000 - 0:0
The Lebanese government is seeking a project aimed at importing oil from Iraq through Syria and from Iran through Iraq and Syria to allow Lebanon to reexport it to world markets.
This project is seen as a positive move toward promoting regional cooperation and development.
Lebanon is a country that long suffered under the colonial rule.
Later, it became a target of aggression from the illegitimate Zionist entity, and the Lebanese people shared the sufferings of their Palestinian brethren, who bore the brunt of the Zionist atrocities and aggression.
The Lebanese people just recently managed to drive Zionist forces out of their homeland and put an end to the 22-year occupation of South Lebanon. Now, to reconstruct the ruins remaining from the Zionist occupation, Lebanon is in dire need of assistance and cooperation from other Islamic countries.
The Islamic Republic is ready to extend all kinds of assistance to the Lebanese people in their reconstruction campaign. In general, Iran is keen on promoting cooperation and development in the whole region.
A proposed natural gas pipeline from Iran to India via Pakistan has been envisioned with the above objectives in mind.
Other countries in the region should also follow suit and, by joining cooperation and development accords, they should try to achieve self-sufficiency and put an end to the self-serving and illegitimate presence and interference of aliens in the region.
